Improving Relationships with SEND Parents – Murmuration Community Therapy

Murmuration Community Therapy and Bristol City Council have worked together on a Send Empathy Project to address the concerns raised by parents, that professionals can appear to lack empathy and find it hard to acknowledge parents’ feelings. As part of this project, they have produced a video which forms part of a training resource which can be used by professionals.

The aim of the film is to ensure that, in all interactions, professionals empower and support parents. Murmuration Community Therapy conducted research with parents and community groups to understand how professionals and parents could build strong relationships together. Their research highlighted six principles that parents would like professionals to observe:

1.Believe the parent

2.Empower the parent to act

3.Acknowledge the parent’s feelings

4.Show that you value the child

5.Stay in touch

6.Be upfront about service limitations

SEND and You were proud to work with our team of volunteers & Murmuration in co-hosting an engagement event as part of the project.
